Robin

Anael was flying over the roofs of London, and beginning to fly lower, wondering where he would land today. There was a little frost on his wings and in his hair, from how high he had been flying, but he was barely aware of it, or how cold his skin would have been to the touch right then. The sun would warm it quickly enough now that he had regained lower heights, and he let the wing carry him where it might want, without any guidance from him.

He smiled warmly, with definite approval, at the distant sight of a naked figure sunbathing on the roof of a tall building and sipping a colourful drink through a straw, before his eyebrows raised as the wind carried him closer, and he was startled to recognise the person in question.

Not that it was a surprise that Robin would want to avoid tan lines.

At least, Anael hoped it was Robin; he had never met a puck he liked so much. When the wind veered to the side, he beat his wings to leave it behind and come closer, still cloaked to the eyes of anyone. He flew over to the roof, hopeful that it would be the puck who could, and did, love. He beat his wings a couple of times as he came down, sending gusts of wind across the roof, then appeared as bare feet touched the ground. He took a few steps, smiling at the puck before shedding his wings, now looking like nothing but a young man in simple jeans and a t-shirt.

"I suppose that's better than your taking it to mean that you make me feel old," Robin said, sounding amused. "But there aren't many who can. But even you... you are a new friend. There are those few who I've crossed paths with over and over again throughout the years. It can be disorienting."

"Some things change," said Robin. "Some things stay the same. And time, it doesn't mean the same thing, for creatures like us. I might go a day, or fifty years, or a thousand, without seeing someone, and then there they are again."

"It's not steadying when you get used to having someone around, and then they disappear... and then show up again," Robin said, thinking of one person in particular. He was still pissed about Prometheus showing back up and then disappearing again the next day. Fuck him.

"This is why it's best not to let myself get too attached," Robin said.

"You're not going to get real feelings from me," Robin said after a moment, even as he continued to hold him. "Just so you know. No one does, not anymore."

"Oh, right." Robin smiled, clearly pleased that Anael had remembered and was enthusiastic. But then he leaned in and kissed him. "I think I'd like an IOU, actually. A whole night of debauchery." Which was a fair enough excuse he thought, but honestly he'd like some space in between what they'd just done, and that. He wasn't sure that with the lingering way he felt he'd be quite the same as if he had a blank slate.

"You don't have to leave," Robin said after a moment. "But you can. That may not be a satisfying answer, but I am startling apathetic on the matter." Or more accurately, he was torn on the matter, since part of him was enjoying the companionship, and part of him was, yes, having a rather difficult relationship with his own feelings. So he split the difference into apathy.

"Only because I am so looking forward to how you're going to make this up to me later," Robin said, and settled more comfortably back into the bed with his arm still around Anael.

A sliver of light slid in from between the curtains, shining across a painting hanging near the bed. It was much newer than most of the paintings in Robin's apartment. A scene from A Midsummer Night's Dream. Only if you looked close enough, Puck was very clearly this Robin, and he and Oberon were looking rather friendly. An Oberon clearly modeled after someone else: a dark-haired, pale-skinned man who now wore a different face even if Robin had no idea what it actually was these days.

"Oh," said Robin, and looked up at the painting, which made him suddenly uncomfortable, since he'd just been thinking of Prometheus. "Old friend."

"Probably still does," said Robin. "Who knows."

It wasn't pain, exactly, it was just... ugh. Yeah, Robin really didn't want to think about it. Especially in front of Anael, because it was like he could just feel the angel trying to read his emotions.

He returned the kiss, but then he pulled away and sat up in the bed. "You know, as much as I would like to spend all day in bed with you, it does occur to me that there are probably some things I should do."
